Haiti’s Open Wounds

Eyewitness accounts on the relentless humanitarian crisis in Haiti, its causes, and future perspectives, with Fiammetta Cappellini, AVSI country representative in Haiti, and Joe Parkin Daniels, a correspondent for Latin America and the Caribbean at The Guardian, moderated by Jackie Aldrette, managing director, AVSI-USA.

The multiple crises in Haiti reveal the depths of the truth about how the country remains mired in human suffering, corruption, and underdevelopment, and how past attempts from some in the international community have failed to help or have even made things worse. Speakers will share their dramatic eyewitness accounts of the 2001 and 2021 earthquakes, last summer’s assassination of the president, interactions with gangs, and attacks on staff as well as their assessment of the country’s future.
