Twice Called

A tribute to the 19 martyrs of Algeria with Fr. Thomas Georgeon, postulator of the cause of beatification, Anne-Marie Gustavson, sister of Bishop Pierre Claverie, and Paul Heck, professor of theology and Islamic Studies at Georgetown University, moderated by Msgr. Stephen Raica, Bishop of Birmingham

The event pays tribute to the 19 Algerian martyrs killed in terrorist attacks during the so-called Black Decade of the country (1992–2002) and aims to spread awareness of their sacrifice. The event will recount their faith, which led them to choose to remain in the country despite the threats, and their human commitment to dialogue and peace, offering a universal message of hope and reconciliation. The 19 martyrs were beatified in a ceremony at the Cathedral of Oran on December 8, 2018. The 2010 French film Of Gods and Men brought global recognition to the story of the monks of Tibhirine.
